Symbols of State Religion

One of the themes that becomes apparent when you start to look at the history of Australia is just how unlikely it was that Australia should have established herself as a "secular state".  One of the other themes that becomes apparent is how unhappy some Australians are that we live in a secular state.  StateReligionVIC has to give a design award to Family First.  It would simply be impossible to produce a logo that better symbolizes the ambition of "State Religion" than the logo that family first chose to represent their cause:

The logo, turns the map of Australia into a "mitre" the hat worn by religious leaders it is a symbol of church authority and power.

It is a clever bit of design work, but it reflects a deep contempt for the idea of Government that is neutral toward religion, and a nation where all faiths are treated equally.  Making the territory into a symbolic bishops hat, communicates the idea clearly.  We stand for a nation who is headed by the Church.

How tenuously does our "Secular State" balance.  How perilous is its existence.  Would we miss it if it were gone?  Will it take loosing it to know what it was worth?
